Harman Kardon® in Mercedes-Benz® Vehicles
Generous surround sound in the luxury convertible
Thanks to the high-quality Harman Kardon® sound system, the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz® SL-Class offers faithful premium surround sound from 5.1 and stereo recordings that meet the highest expectations in every seat. Mercedes-Benz has placed the emphasis on sporty design in the new generation of the SL, something that is reflected in the engine and driving sound. This is why the roadster was subjected to intensive Harman Kardon testing both the vario-roof both up and down, to ensure accurate sound reproduction at any time. The fine adjustment with the hardtop open was a particularly complex task: As soon as the roof is opened, the amplifier receives a signal from the central electronics and adjusts the sound reproduction to the new background noise level.
Discrete Logic 7 technology produces faithful surround sound from 5.1 and stereo recordings
The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class also offers authentic surround sound from normal stereo and modern 5.1 recordings optimized for both seats. The basis for the unique sound is the innovative, discrete Harman Kardon Logic 7 technology. The SL roadster contains a total of 10 high-quality loudspeakers to ensure faithful listening pleasure. For even better sound on the open road, there is an additional bass box at the passenger’s feet that is fed by a separate 2 × 80-watt booster. Thus, together with the 350-watt Harman Kardon DSP main amplifier, a total of 510-watt system output is available. The digital DTCP encryption technology allows audio information to be transmitted via MOST® technology without loss in quality. This means that loss in quality when transmitting high-resolution multichannel sound recordings in the MLP, MLP 5.1, DTS® 5.1, Dolby® Digital 5.1 and PCM digital standards is now a thing of the past. In addition, the SL features Speed-Sensitive Volume Adjustment (SSVA). Every change in speed is forwarded to the sound system by means of a speedometer signal, so that the volume is automatically adjusted accordingly.
