Mercedes M-Class

Concert-hall sound in the heart of the country

The even more powerful Harman Kardon® sound system in the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz® M-Class lends a particularly exclusive note to the built-for-comfort premium-class SUV. To ensure that the premium sound systems, which are only available factory-installed, continue to produce superior sound quality even after many years of use, engineers test the components in advance in a series of stringent practical tests. All of the components are expected to pass extreme tests while crossing desert terrain. This also ensures that the high levels of dust and excessive vibration will not influence the faithful, enveloping reproduction.

Discrete Logic 7 technology produces faithful, enveloping surround sound

Harman Kardon acoustic specialists have equipped the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class with a 610-watt amplifier system. The 450-watt DSP multichannel main amplifier is supplemented by a separate 2 × 80-watt booster that is directly connected to the central subwoofer in the luggage compartment. The 12 high-end sound transducers in the M-Class have been positioned so that the passengers can enjoy three-dimensional surround sound that is rich in detail no matter where they are seated in the car. The enveloping surround sound in the new generation of the built-for-comfort Mercedes-Benz M-Class is based on pioneering discrete Logic 7 technology. The surround information is read out from the recording medium and distributed to optimum effect via the sound transducers of the M-Class, producing a sound that remains faithful to the original. The acoustic separation of sound source and speaker gives passengers the impression of a much broader sound platform, regardless of where they are seated. In addition, both the driver and passengers can enjoy the latest in digital sound transmission in the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. The DTCP (Digital Transmission Content Protection)¹ encryption technology means that even high-resolution signals can be digitally transported and processed en route from the sound carrier to the amplifier. This means that high-resolution multichannel sound recordings in the DVD-Audio¹, DVD-Video¹ or DTS® CD formats can be transferred to the MLP, MLP 5.1¹, DTS 5.1¹, Dolby® Digital 5.1¹ and PCM digital standards without loss of quality.
