The tailor-made Harman Kardon® sound system in the Mercedes-Benz® GLK-Class delivers a unique sound experience that meets the highest standards, even when driving off-road. The basis for this are the high-quality individual components that have been designed right from the development stage for extreme loads far exceeding those to be expected during normal usage. Long test series and challenging crossings over desert terrain test whether high levels of dust, severe vibration or extreme temperature fluctuations will influence reproduction.

Unique surround sound thanks to discrete Logic 7® technology

The Harman Kardon audio system in the GLK-Class offers a total output of 510 watts. The 350-watt multichannel DSP main amplifier is supplemented by a 2 × 80-watt booster that drives the central subwoofer. The GLK-Class also has 12 high-end sound transducers that have been optimally integrated in the vehicle interior.

The surround sound in the compact GLK-Class SUV is based on pioneering discrete Logic 7 technology, which permits faithful, expansive sound reproduction in every seat from even 5.1¹ surround recordings. If these recordings were to be played without alteration in the car, there would be only one “sweet spot”: in the center-console area, where no one sits. Thanks to discrete Logic 7 technology, the surround information is optimally distributed via the speakers in the GLK-Class, producing a sound that remains faithful to the original. This gives passengers the impression of being in a much bigger space with a broad sound platform regardless of where they are seated. The modern DTCP (Digital Transmission Content Protection)¹ encryption technology means that high-resolution signals can be digitally transported and processed en route from the sound carrier to the amplifier. The result is lossless transmission of modern multichannel formats. This means that high-resolution multichannel recordings on DVD-Audio¹, DVD-Video² or DTS® CD can be transferred to the MLP, MLP 5.1¹, DTS 5.1¹, Dolby® Digital 5.1¹ and PCM digital standards without loss of quality.
