Mercedes GL-Class

Excellent sound platform for on-road and off-road use

The powerful Harman Kardon® sound system in the GL-Class emphasizes the distinctive character of the unique and feature-filled SUV: the exclusive premium sound solution offers optimally coordinated components that permit a superior sound experience. As befits the Mercedes-Benz® brand, the acoustic experts from Harman Kardon test the audio systems in uncompromising test series on the toughest desert trails in the world. This guarantees an unparalleled, three-dimensional sound quality that still meets the highest standards for acoustic transparency and dynamism even after many years. The stringent quality standards ensure that neither high levels of dust nor excessive vibration will influence the excellent surround sound reproduction either on or off the road.

Faithful, expansive surround sound thanks to Discrete Logic 7 technology

Harman Kardon acoustic specialists have equipped the GL-Class with a 610-watt amplifier system that guarantees superior performance both on and off the road. The 450-watt DSP multichannel main amplifier is supplemented by a separate 2 × 80-watt booster that is directly connected to the central subwoofer in the luggage compartment. The positioning of the 12 high-end Harman Kardon sound transducers represented a particular challenge. The speakers have been positioned so that all passengers, both in the five-seater and the seven-seater configuration, can enjoy the richly detailed surround sound. The three-dimensional sound platform in the impressive SUV all-rounder is based on the pioneering Discrete Logic 7 technology. The surround information is read out from the recording medium and distributed to optimum effect via the sound transducers, producing a sound that remains faithful to the original. The acoustic separation of sound source and speakers produces optimum surround-sound enjoyment and an excellent sound balance at all seats. In addition, both the driver and passengers can enjoy the latest in digital sound transmission in the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The digital DTCP (Digital Transmission Content Protection)¹ encryption technology means that even high-resolution signals can be digitally transported and processed en route from the sound carrier to the amplifier. This means that high resolution multichannel recordings in DVD-Audio¹, DVD-Video¹, or DTS® CD formats can be transferred to the digital standards MLP, MLP 5.1¹, DTS 5.1¹, Dolby® Digital 5.1¹, and PCM without any losses.
