Harman Kardon® in Mercedes-Benz® Vehicles
Premium Surround Sound in Premium Coupe
The high-performance Harman Kardon® Sound System in the new Mercedes-Benz® CLS meets the very highest demands for an excellent listening experience that is rich in detail from every seating position. At the heart of the bespoke audio system in the four-door luxury coupe is the high-end DSP amplifier with a total of 610 watts. Alongside the multichannel primary amplifier with 450 watts, there is also a separate 2 x 80 watts booster driving the central subwoofer in the parcel shelf. In order to make the most of the high dynamic power of the bass speaker, the parcel shelf has been reinforced with a sheet steel frame in the area beneath the subwoofer. This eliminates unwanted vibration and increases the dynamics of the subwoofer.
Meticulously tuned high-tech components
Harman Kardon acoustic experts have equipped the CLS with 14 high-performance speakers. The increased amplifier output of 100 watts compared with the previous CLS model delivers more dynamics and plentiful power reserves in the reproduction of demanding instruments and impulses. An additional 80 mm mid-range speaker in each of the front doors ensures an even more harmonious sound experience in the new model generation. The basis for the hi-fidelity, three-dimensional spatial sound is the innovative discrete
Logic 7® technology from Harman Kardon. Only with this, can stereo and 5.11 surround recordings fulfill their true potential in a car. The surround information is read from the storage medium and optimally distributed in original quality through the system architecture of the CLS. The sound waves are moved away from the individual speakers to give the impression of a considerably larger space with a broad sound stage for passengers in every seating position. A key factor of the outstanding sound experience in the four-door Mercedes-Benz Coupe is also the digital DTCP encryption technology. The zero-degradation, digital transmission content protection enables high-resolution sound formats to be digitally transported from storage medium to amplifier. To put it another way – the technology eliminates the need to convert digital signals into analogue. This means that recordings in DVD Audio¹, DVD Video² or DTS® CD formats are transferred without degradation into MLP, MLP 5.1, DTS 5.1, Dolby® Digital 5.1 and PCM digital standards.
