Harman Kardon® in Mercedes-Benz® Vehicles
Exquisite tone and sound technology at the very highest level
With the Harman Kardon® discrete Logic 7® surround sound system, Mercedes-Benz C-Class models are turned into rolling concert halls. Thanks to the intensive cooperation between Harman Kardon and Mercedes-Benz during the design phase, each of the bodyshell variants has its own tailor-made solutions. The particular acoustic conditions in the sedan, station wagon and the new coupe were considered in minute detail. In all models, a total of twelve high-quality sound transformers deliver that unmistakable, three-dimensional sound experience to all seating positions.
Perfectly tuned speakers for the different interiors
High-quality, carefully combined sound transformers and the discrete Logic 7 technology of the Harman Kardon surround sound system are the basis for the concert hall atmosphere in Mercedes-Benz C-Class models.
Conventional stereo recordings on CD and MP3, as well as modern 5.11 multi-channel recordings on DVD Audio¹, DVD Video² and DTS CD offer a unique, spatial, 360-degree sound experience in all seating positions. To achieve this, Harman Kardon acoustic specialists developed an individual solution to suit the specific vehicle architecture of each model variant.
While, in the C-Class sedan and coupe, the oval subwoofer and a surround speaker
are installed together in the parcel shelf, the acoustic experts placed the subwoofer box
on its side in the rear of the station wagon. The discrete positioning behind the side panel delivers impressive bass reproduction without impacting the cargo capacity. The interior of the station wagon called for a special solution in positioning the surround speaker, too –
Harman Kardon sound specialists mounted two 80 mm surround speakers in the upper part of the D-pillar. On the sedan and the coupe, these sound transformers are located at the outer ends of the parcel shelf. In the more compact coupe, four tweeters and four low/mid-range speakers in the doors and rear side trim make for a balanced sound. In the sedan and the station wagon, the rear doors feature coaxial speakers that, with two highly specialized sound transformers in one casing, generate a broad frequency spectrum.
The Harman Kardon specialists integrated the powerful 450 Watt high-performance amplifier behind the side trim in the rear of the vehicle, without impinging on the load surface of the trunk.
The amplifier is equipped with a digital signal processor (DSP), which controls the frequency response of all speakers with its high processing power to deliver a harmonious sound experience.
